Thomas and Erin Hines met after a football game at his university.
While Erin loves watching her man play football, she’ll tell you that love is no spectator sport. It takes intentionality, trust and good communication from the start.
She gives some great advice on how to communicate and make sure that you’re always on the same team!
Describe your husband in three words.
Kind, passionate and funny.
How did you and your husband meet?
He was a friend and teammate of my brothers, and we met at a dinner after a football game.
Who was interested first?
The feeling was mutual.

What qualities about your husband made your realize he was marriage material?
He treated the women in his family with respect and love. We had the same spiritual mindset, he was gentle, kind, easy to talk to and amazing with kids.
What was your favorite detail of your wedding day?
My dress! But also knowing that we would be together forever.
What’s your best advice to young women in dating relationships?
Don’t date someone you can’t see yourself marrying.

What’s your best advice for those pursuing sexual purity?
Waiting is difficult, but it is worth it. There is more trust between you and your husband.
What has been your biggest lesson in marriage?
Everyone says communication is key, and it’s true. But they don’t say what to communicate about. If they hurt your feelings, tell them. If something makes you uncomfortable, tell them. Don’t keep the things that bother you locked inside; don’t wait to talk about things later. Deal with them as they come.

How do you keep God the focus of your relationship?
We realize that we are two flawed people that need Christ every day. Satan tries to rip you apart every day with bad moods and harsh words. We are not experts yet but we pray, say “I love you”, and say something encouraging to each other.
