The biblical accounts of motherhood throughout the pages of scripture teach us much about the responsibilities and the joys of godly living. These women were filled with passion and positioned with great influence. Many of them loved their families with great faith and personal character.
- Zarepeth, the widowed woman, taught us to share generously and trust God as our Provision (1 Kings 17).
- Jochebed, the mother of Moses, taught us how to protect our children at whatever cost (Exodus 2:1-10).
- Timothy’s mother taught us generational faithfulness (2 Timothy 1:5).
- Elizabeth, the barren one, taught us to believe in miracles (Luke 1:25).
- Naomi, the mother-in-law, taught us how to share our faith with our family (Ruth 1).
- And Mary, the blessed mother of Jesus, taught us obedience (Luke 1:38).
We can look to women in the Bible for great life instruction. But, don’t forget, they weren’t perfect! We can also learn from their mistakes.
- Eve showed us, through her sin, not to believe the lies of the enemy (Genesis 3)
- Rachel and Leah showed us how jealousy can destroy a family (Genesis 29-30)
- Rebekah showed us how deception never prevails (Genesis 27).
Whether our mothers were positive role models or not, there is always something to be learned from their instruction. Whether we learn what to do or what not to do, we can gain wisdom from the women who go before us. God put these women in our life to give us life and guide us along the journey.
Proverbs 1:8-9 says, “Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.”

Each of us on the Across My Heart Team are blessed with mothers who grace us with their wisdom and love for God. Like the sweet aroma of a flower garland, their loving kindness and godly character make our lives a little more beautiful everyday. I mean, what would we do without them? They not only teach us about life, they teach us about godliness. We are who we are today because of their life-long love and life-changing lessons. This Mother’s Day, our team took some time to reflect on what our mother’s have taught us… we love our moms!

Amber Impellizerri, Co-founder and Assistant Director
My mom taught me selflessness: that it’s not always about what I want, but it’s about doing what is most helpful for other and what’s right. She taught me to embrace my goofiness! And she taught me to always make time for those that need my time whether it’s someone that is sad, someone who needs encouragement, or someone who’s lonely. She always reminded me to love God with all my heart and have childlike faith and wonder, to make my daddy proud with my choices, both my earthly father and my Heavenly One.
Ashley Giovannucci, Founder & Director
My mom taught me how to make this world a better place by carrying the light of the Kingdom with me everywhere I go and have fun doing it. There’s never a dull moment when she is around! She taught me how to have a love for life that only God can give. Because, ultimately, she taught me how to love Jesus more than we love this world.
